Greg DeVault was born and raised in the mid-west. The town he grew up in
was slightly larger than Mayberry, but the lifestyle was similar to the home
of Andy Griffith and Barney Fife. There wasn't a whole lot going on in that
part of the world other than farming and coal mining, so as soon as Greg graduated
high school, he scooted out of there and made his way to the Pacific Northwest.
After a short stint at the University of Washington, he ran out of money (paying
out of state tuition) and was forced to go back home.
He still had the wanderlust in him, so he took some time off to travel the
country. He loaded up his old Ford and traveled to 44 of our 50 states. After
a year or so of that, he figured he'd better get serious about life, and went
back to college.
One thing Greg always enjoyed was working with his hands. So it was only
natural that he started working as a carpenter. He eventually started his
own construction company. After ten years of that, he saw a guy inspecting
a home for a purchaser one day and thought, "Now that looks interesting."
One thing led to another and Greg became a home inspector. Since then, he's
never looked back.
Greg now has over ten years and thousands of home inspections under his belt.
He is a certified member of the American Society of Home Inspectors, a certified
building inspector by the International Conference of Building Officials,
and a Washington State licensed pest inspector. His home inspection company
is DeVault Inspection Service, Inc. in Seattle, Washington.
Greg's hobby is boating. And boating he does, whenever he can. He and his
bride Alice cruise the beautiful Puget Sound in Washington State every chance
they get. As Greg says, "Being out on the water is the next best thing
to heaven."
